Sad but not terribly surprising news: Catbird, the super-feminine Williamsburg boutique, is shutting its store at 390 Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg. The location has always seemed dicey; it's around the corner from the restaurants and shopping on Havermeyer and Grand Streets (a stone's throw from Paul Smith, even) but it's also less than two blocks from a BQE entrance, which does nothing to encourage foot traffic.

We might not be able to blame Robert Moses, though, since in an email blast this afternoon, the store owners explained that they've lost their lease. Everything in the space will be on sale for between 50% and 75% off for the next few months. As for the Bedford Avenue location, the Catbird blog assures us that it "remains unscathed."
