PHILADELPHIA – Amari Williams was named the 2021-22 Colonial Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Year and Camren Wynter was named All-CAA First Team in a vote of league coaches, communications directors, and media. In addition, Matey Juric was named the winner of the prestigious Dean Ehlers Leadership Award, while Williams was also named to the CAA's Third Team.

Williams had a breakout season in his second year with the Dragons. The sophomore from Nottingham, England, led the CAA in blocked shots with more than two per game. He averaged 9.7 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting .527 from the field. Williams had six double-doubles, including a 20-point, 19-rebound performance against UNCW. The 19 rebounds were the most for a Drexel player since Malik Rose had 19 in March of 1996.

Wynter was named to the All-CAA First Team for the second straight season. The senior from Hempstead, N.Y. ended the regular season third in the league in scoring (15.3), second in assists (4.7), second in assist-to-turnover ratio and third in free-throw percentage. Wynter is no stranger to the All-CAA team. He was named a Second Team selection in 2020 and was the CAA Rookie of the Year in 2019. Wynter is now seventh on the Drexel career scoring list, third in career assists and eighth in career steals at the school.

Juric was honored with the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award which recognizes a student-athletes' achievements both on and off the court. The senior from Toronto has a 3.98 grade-point average in biological sciences. A team captain who plans on going to medical school, Juric is a two-year member of the Dragon Leadership Academy, which helps build student-athlete leaders at Drexel. On the court, He has played in 94 straight games and is a three-time winner of the team's Defensive Player of the Year award. Juric became the first Dragon to win the award since Robert Battle in 2003.

With Williams being named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and Juric being named the Ehlers Award winner, Drexel had the winners of those two awards in the same season for the first time since 2003, when Battle took home both awards.

The Dragons head into the postseason with a 15-13 record and a 10-8 mark in CAA play. The 10 wins are the most the team has had in league play since the 2011-12 team finished 16-2. The Dragons have now guaranteed themselves their second consecutive season above .500 for only the second time in the last 17 years.

Drexel will begin play in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Dragons will be the fourth seed in the tournament and will play Delaware at 2:30 p.m. at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
